Police conducting checkpoints over long weekend for Operation Impact

New Brunswick RCMP will join police agencies across Canada in conducting checkpoints over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

It's part of Operation Impact — an annual national road safety initiative designed to improve safe driving practices.

The operation provides education and targets enforcement in the areas of impaired driving by alcohol or drugs, distracted driving, not wearing a seatbelt and aggressive driving.

Mounties say they will be conducting checkstops along major highways and secondary roads, and officers will also be set up at various locations with speed radar.
