Police not responsible for fatal Colchester County crash: SIRT
The province's Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says the RCMP is not responsible for the crash that claimed the life of a 59-year old Moncton man in March.
The accident took place on Pictou Road in East Mountain after police chased a vehicle for over 40 minutes.
The pursuit started in Fall River when the RCMP attempted pull over a vehicle whose driver was suspected of being impaired.
It continued on Highway 102 to Truro, then toward New Glasgow on Highway 104.
The suspect then exited onto Highway 4 before heading back towards Truro, at which point the RCMP ended their pursuit.
A short time later, police were notified of a vehicle that had left the road and crashed into a tree.
Once on scene they determined the driver of the vehicle was deceased and that the vehicle involved was the same one involved in the earlier pursuit.
The SIRT investigation concluded the officers had acted appropriately in the circumstances and since the pursuit had ended before the crash, police were not a factor in its cause.
