Premier to attend Davis Day ceremony in Springhill
Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil is expected to attend a ceremony in Springhill Monday in commemoration of miners who have lost their lives on the job.
Davis Day pays tribute to William Davis, a striking Cape Breton coal miner who was shot and killed by company police 93 years ago today while fighting against the harsh treatment they endured while underground.
McNeil is expected to lay a wreath in Davis's honour while Business Minister Geoff MacLellan attended a ceremony in New Waterford earlier Monday.
The annual service acknowledges the legacy of Nova Scotia coal miners, and the importance of workplace health and safety.
