Province announces $3.8 million operating room expansion in Windsor

The Nova Scotia government has unveiled plans to renovate an unused operating room at the Hants Community Hospital.

Officials say the second operating room will mean 800 more surgeries at the Windsor hospital each year – nearly doubling the annual number of procedures.

The $3.8 million project is part of the QEII Redevelopment Project, which will see services transferred from the QEII Health Sciences Centre to support the eventual closure of the Victoria and Centennial buildings at the VG site.

Work is expected to begin in August and take about three months to complete.

During that time, surgeries that would normally be done at the hospital will be performed at other facilities in the province.
