Province announces expansion of mental health outreach program for students
The provincial government has announced a $1 million annual investment to expand outreach programs to give more junior high and high school students mental health support.
The expansion was announced by Health and Wellness Minister Randy Delorey on Thursday at Hants North Rural High School in Kennetcook.
The program's expansion involves 11 new mental health and addictions staff, and is operated by the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
The adolescent outreach program, originally called CaperBase, started in Cape Breton in 2009 and expanded last fall to include 41 schools in western and northern Nova Scotia.
Since the launch of the expansion, government says more than 4,000 youth accessed the program in those areas.
