Province announces new affordable housing for victims of domestic violence in Cumberland County

Victims of domestic violence in Cumberland County will soon have access to new affordable second-stage housing units in the Amherst area.

MLA Terry Farrell and MP Bill Casey announced today that the provincial and federal governments will invest around $292,100 in building a new duplex to help women and children who are leaving domestic violence.

The province says the new units will allow tenants to stay for a period of one year and will also offer support to help them transition to independent living.

The province also says the project will be managed by Autumn House, which is an organization that provides shelter, counselling, and support services.
