Province announces Solar Electricity for Community Buildings Program approvals

The RECC in Truro and Brookfield's Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex will be taking part in the Solar Electricity for Community Buildings Program.

It's a three-year pilot program that helps community groups generate solar power and sell it to Nova Scotia Power.

The other approved projects in northern Nova Scotia are the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill, the Plymouth Community and Recreation Association, Amherst Stadium and the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy in Parrsboro.

A total of 27 applications were selected from across the province this year, and if all projects are completed, more than 1,600 kilowatts of renewable electricity will be added to the grid.

That's more than double last year's total.
