Province releases Financial Condition Index for local municipalities
The Department of Municipal Affairs has released data for 2015-16 which shows how each municipality in the province sets and manages budgets and manages capital priorities.
The Financial Condition Index (FCI) has fifteen indicators, including revenue, budget deficits and capital assets, for both rural municipalities and towns.
In the report, Truro met thirteen of the fifteen indicators, scoring low for operating reserves and five-year contributions to capital reserves.
The Municipality of Pictou met thirteen of the fifteen indicators, the municipalities of Colchester and East Hants met twelve, and New Glasgow met eleven.
Of the three blemishes against Colchester County, the FCI report said the municipality had two deficits in the last five years.
The full report is available on the Department of Municipal Affairs website.
