Province says 190 of 191 new classroom support positions are filled
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development says they've hired all but one of 191 new classroom supports.
The province announced $15 million in the spring for the new hires in the 2018-19 school year.
One remaining student health partnership nurse remains to be hired through the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Government says the classroom supports hired include 100 additional Educational Assistants and Child and Youth Care Practitioners, 70 new autism and behavioral specialists, 11 parent navigators, six school psychologists and speech language pathologists, and three student health partnership nurses.
Education Minister Zach Churchill says they started with on-the-ground resources that parents and teachers have told us are needed most urgently.
Eight alternative education programs were also added throughout the province, which are designed to help students who learn best in a non-traditional setting.
