Provincial funding to help revitalize Lunenburg Academy

The town of Lunenburg will receive $1 million from the province to help revitalize the historic Lunenburg Academy.

Officials say the money will help restore the building, turning it into a community hub space for the regional library and educational programming, as well as an art gallery, café and other enhancements.

The iconic building is a provincial Heritage Property and a National Historic Site.

The federal government is investing more than $66,000 in the project, while the Lunenburg Academy Foundation is chipping in $200,000.

Meanwhile, the province says it will also invest $45,000 in the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance to create an in-house recording studio and strengthen marketing and recruitment efforts to increase program capacity and sustainability.
