RCMP arrest driver who allegedly dragged officer during traffic stop
The RCMP say a man who allegedly dragged an officer 15 metres during a traffic stop in Pictou County has been arrested.
Police say the 18-year-old Pictou County man was arrested on Friday evening.
He faces four charges, including assaulting a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, and driving a motor vehicle with a suspended licence.
Police said a driver stopped at a checkpoint on Highway 4 near Hamilton Road in Alma around 1:18 a.m. on Feb. 25.
They said the driver talked briefly with an officer before fleeing the scene, catching the officer's shoulder and arm.
Investigators said the officer was dragged about 15 meters, and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The alleged driver has been released from custody and is due in Pictou provincial court on May 1.
