RCMP hold checkpoints focused on distracted driving
Halifax District RCMP held checkpoints this past weekend that were focused on distracted driving.
The checkpoints were held on three roadways, including Caldwell Road in Cole Harbour and Cobequid Rd. and Downsview Rd. in Lower Sackville.
RCMP say during the checkpoints eight drivers were charged for using handheld cellular devices while driving, and three other traffic-related tickets were issued.
The fine in Nova Scotia for using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle is $237.50.
RCMP say they will continue to conduct checkpoints in an effort to reduce distracted drivers on roads in the province.
