RCMP investigate drowning in Richmond County
The RCMP is investigating a drowning in Cape Breton.
Richmond County RCMP were called to Crooked Lake Road around 1:30 p.m. Monday and say a woman was at a remote cottage with a friend.
She went for a swim, disappeared under the surface, and did not come back up.
Police say the friend tried to help, but was not able to get to her in time.
The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was called in as police and firefighters were unable to retrieve the body.
Divers recovered the body of the 28-year-old woman Tuesday morning.
The RCMP has not made a determination about criminality at this time and the investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.
