RCMP say fatal house fire in Pubnico Head is not considered suspicious
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit says a fatal house fire in Pubnico Head that killed four people on Sunday is not considered suspicious, following a preliminary investigation.
The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner's Service has assumed the lead of the investigation under the Nova Scotia Fatality Investigations Act.
The local fire chief says it could be days before officials know for sure what caused the fire that killed four people, including at least two young children.
West Pubnico fire Chief Gordon Amiro says firefighters responded about 12 minutes after the call came in Sundayday, but flames had already engulfed the house and there was nothing they could do except try to put out the flames.
A family member says the father of at least one of the children remains in hospital and is struggling to stay alive.
Police have been using a cadaver dog to search the rubble of the two-storey home.
