RCMP step up speed enforcement in school zones

East Hants District RCMP say three drivers have been ticketed for speeding in school zones throughout the municipality.

One of the drivers was clocked at 106 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Motorists must slow down to 30 km/h when children are present if the speed limit is 50 km/h, or down to 50 km/h if the speed limit is above 50 km/h.

Fines for speeding in a school zone can range from around $350 to $700, depending on speed, and include demerit points on a driver's licence and possibly even a licence suspension.
