Re-opened Sydney call centre approved for payroll rebate

The Sydney Call Centre Inc. has been approved for a payroll rebate of up to $2.475 million over three years.

Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI) says the company has the potential to create another 270 jobs under the business development incentive agreement.

That would bring the total workforce to 750.

Based on the maximum growth forecast, NSBI says the company could spend up to $49.5 million in payroll and contribute $5.053 million in provincial taxes.

The Sydney Call Centre Inc. would be eligible for a smaller rebate if it creates fewer the target of 750 overall jobs.

The call centre reopened January 2nd after it abruptly closed before Christmas and was sold, hiring back more than 90 per cent of its workforce, offering enhanced benefits and increasing entry-level wages.
