Renovated Aberdeen Hospital Emergency Department to open October 24th

The Aberdeen Hospital's renovated emergency department will officially open on October 24th.

The date was announced as part of a video from the Nova Scotia Health Authority describing the process of the work at the New Glasgow facility.

Patients will be accepted for emergency care beginning at 7 a.m. that day.

The tender for the $32 million project was first issued in 2015, and involved building a new Emergency Department to the south side of the hospital, and redeveloping Pharmacy Services in the space vacated by the Emergency Department.

The province contributed 75 per cent of the cost of the redevelopment, with the six Pictou County municipalities providing the remaining $6.8 million through a deed transfer tax.

Both the Aberdeen Health Foundation and Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary were also involved in providing furniture and equipment in the new space.
