Researchers say Canadians need to wash their water bottles more often
Researchers studying higher rates of gastrointestinal illness for a Labrador Inuit community say lessons they've learned suggest that all Canadians need to wash water bottles more often.
They studied 104 samples of drinking water stored in containers at 76 homes in Rigolet.
University of Guelph researcher Carlee Wright says the water mostly came from a treated community dispenser but one-quarter of those samples were contaminated with bacteria.
Wright says clean water can become contaminated if bottles and containers aren't sanitized about once a month.
