Retail sales down in three of four Atlantic provinces in February

Retail sales were down in three of the four Atlantic provinces in February, led by a 4.5 per cent decline in Nova Scotia.

Statistics Canada says severe winter weather was a factor in the drop in Nova Scotia, which it says was led by lower sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers as well as building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers.

Retail sales also declined 1.5 per cent from January in Newfoundland and Labrador, and were down 2.3 per cent month over month in P-E-I.

New Brunswick bucked the trend with sales up 0.3 per cent, the sixth gain in seven months.
