Several Bearcats players honoured with year-end MHL awards

With the 2017-18 regular season over, the Maritime Hockey League (MHL) has announced a number of award recipients and the Truro Bearcats have a handful of honourees.

Bearcats captain Campbell Pickard made the MHL All-Star Team at centre, in a tie with Amherst captain Jordan King, and was also named MHL Character Player of the Year.

"Campbell Pickard is exactly what every player in the MHL should aspire to be," explained Bearcats Head Coach Shawn Evans in a news release. "It is an honour and privilege to be his Coach. A complete 200 foot hockey player who competes and plays the game the right way. In hockey you earn respect - it is not given to you. He has earned that as the leader of our team. He treats everyone in the community of Truro with the utmost respect. In my 16 years Coaching the Bearcats he may very well be the most well rounded young man I have had the opportunity to work with. (I'm) very proud and very lucky to have Campbell be a Truro Bearcat."

Defensemen Curtis Heffernan and Jack McGovern, both Halifax Mooseheads prospects, were named to the MHL Rookie All-Star Team.

Between the pipes, Kevin Resop and Alec MacDonald lay claim to the Young-Knickle Award as the league's top goaltending duo, combining to help the Bearcats allow just 130 goals against on the year.

This is the tenth time in the past fifteen years that Bearcat goaltenders have captured this award.
