Shark Expedition Proves Fruitful
The leader of a research group looking for a great white shark mating site off Nova Scotia says the historic expedition brought an ``enormous breakthrough.''
The Ocearch team of U-S and Canadian researchers hoped to capture one shark on the expedition -- but ended up tagging six sharks and taking samples from seven.
The tag information will help shed light on the sharks' movements, and inform recovery efforts for the endangered animals.
Ocearch founder Chris Fischer says the research has opened new horizons in the work to solve the puzzle of the mysterious creatures' migratory patterns.
The public can track shark movements through Ocearch's online global shark tracker and on Twitter.
Fischer says a return Ocearch trip is already in the works for 2019.
