SiRT investigates sexual-assault allegation against Halifax police officer
Nova Scotia's independent police watchdog agency is investigating allegations that an on-duty Halifax Regional Police officer sexually assaulted a woman in May 2012.
The Serious Incident Response Team issued a statement Thursday saying it was acting on information it received from the police force on Dec. 21, 2017.
No other details were released.
The team is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia.
That includes all allegations of domestic violence.
The Police Act requires the civilian director of the agency to file a public report within three months after the investigation is completed.
