SiRT investigating arrest of domestic assault suspect in Chester
The province's Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a man for domestic assault in Chester.
Officers responded to the scene around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, and RCMP say an intoxicated man had left the residence with a firearm after the assault.
Police determined the suspect was in a wooded area near the home and called in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and a police dog to help with the arrest.
RCMP say the man tried to get into the home, where the victim and three small children were inside, but fled after spotting police.
The police dog tracked down the suspect a short time later on Highway 3 and arrested, but was taken to hospital for treatment as he was bitten by the dog.
