Sobeys, Feed NS partner to see surplus food donated

Sobeys and Feed Nova Scotia have announced a partnership that will see surplus food close to or past its best before date, but still safe for consumption or use, donated and distributed to those in need.

The pilot program is underway in two locations, the Aberdeen Mall Sobeys in New Glasgow and the Mumford Road Sobeys in Halifax.

Feed Nova Scotia says it has received 520 kg of new food donations in the first two weeks of the program from the Mumford Road location alone, which is equivalent to an estimated 1,100 meals.

Sobeys Atlantic General Manager Peter Doucette says supporting food banks and the important work they do is key to ensuring food access for everyone.
