Special election required for CCRSB District 11 after the successful candidate was disqualified

A special election will be held for District 11 of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board after the man who won the seat has been disqualified.

Scott Adamson informed school board that at the time of his election, he was an active substitute teacher.

According to the Municipal Elections Act, Adamson was required to resign his position as a teacher before he filed his nomination papers, not after his election.

CCRSB Communications Manager Debbie Buott-Matheson says Adamson intends to allow his name to stand for the special election.

The school board will be working with the Returning Officer to determine next steps, including the deadline for nomination papers to be filed as well as the date of the special election.

District 11 encompasses Pictou municipal districts 5, 6, 7, 11 and 12.
