Town of Stewiacke in midst of $170,000 playground upgrade at Dennis Park
The Town of Stewiacke is in the midst of a $170,000 playground upgrade at Dennis Park that's expected to be finished by Thanksgiving weekend.
Mayor Wendy Robinson tells our newsroom people and businesses chipped in to fundraise around $120,000, which speaks to the community spirit in the town.
The old playground equipment was torn down and most of it will be refurbished, with Robinson saying the new site will feature a mix of traditional and natural equipment.
She says the centrepiece will be a replica of the Katie Belle, the 25-metre schooner that was hand-built by cousins Evan and Nick Densmore and launched in the Stewiacke River October 2015.
Robinson says in addition to the benefit of upgrading the playground, they're hoping this is another reason to bring people downtown to help revitalize the area.
An official opening for the project is set for October 14th, weather permitting.
