Truro Bearcats unveil roster as MHL season looms
The Truro Bearcats have unveiled their roster, days ahead of the start of their 2018-19 Maritime Hockey League campaign.
The team has ten returning players from last year's squad, but will be one of the younger Truro teams in recent memory.
Truro is starting the year with eight rookies, including four from June's draft, and have just five 1998-born players.
They'll be bolstered up front by a big return in Millbrook's G Blackmore, a major part of the 2016-17 league championship team, who was released from the Moncton Wildcats this summer after spending last season with the QMJHL squad.
Kyle Sexton was dealt to Truro from St. Stephen, and Shaun Bily, who has some OHL experience, was also acquired over the summer.
They'll join returning players Dylan Burton, Ryan Porter, Luke MacMillan, Gavin Hart, Karter Renouf, Craig Ryan, and Will Mizuik.
The Bearcats saw four defensemen graduate out of the league last year and recently traded for Lauchie MacDonald from Yarmouth to help returning players Curtis Heffernan and Jack McGovern; both of whom attended training camp with the Halifax Mooseheads last month.
Between the pipes, Truro traded for Myles Hektor from the Edmundston Blizzard around the time of the draft, and he'll be supported by returning goaltender Alec MacDonald.
Truro begin their 50-game schedule Saturday night in St. Stephen against the Aces, with the home opener on September 22nd against the Valley Wildcats.
We'll have more details on the roster coming up Friday mornig with the return of the Bearcats Insider.
