Truro Bearcats win Maritime Hockey League title

The Truro Bearcats have clinched the Maritime Hockey League title for the 2016-17 season.

The Bearcats downed the Miramichi Timberwolves 4-3 in Game 7 on Friday night.

Dylan Barton scored for the Bearcats halfway through the first to give them a 1-0 lead.

The host Timberwolves tied it up about two minutes into the second, but Mark O'Shaughnessy scored less than four minutes later to give Truro a 2-1 lead.

Miramichi tied it up again early in the third, but Connor Morrison scored for Truro with just 1:53 left to give Truro a 3-2 lead.

Kyle Tibbo scored an empty net goal 33 seconds later for what would prove to be the game and series winning tally for the Bearcats.

The Timberwolves pulled within a goal with 57 seconds remaining, but could not get any closer.

Truro will now advance to the 2017 Fred Page Cup in Terrebonne, Que., from May 3 to 7, with the winner advancing to the 2017 RBC Cup in Coburg, Ont., from May 13 to 21.
