Truro Eclipse named grand champions at Maritime Meltdown

Truro Eclipse certainly lived up to its name on the weekend at Maritime Meltdown.

The Truro All-Star Cheer and Tumble squad left the rest of the competition in the dark by taking the Grand Champion honour at the two-day cheerleading competition, which was held at RECC and hosted by Halifax Cheer Elite and Dartmouth-based Extreme Athletics.

The grand champion award is presented to the team with the highest overall score, regardless of age or skill level.

Eclipse also won the Senior 4.2 Division and was the 4.2 Level champion – the top team at the 4.2 skill level. It was the third time in four outings this season that Eclipse has won its division.

The grand champion award also marked the second time in as many seasons Truro has taken the top honour at Maritime Meltdown with the Truro Twisters doing so a year ago from the Senior 3 ranks.

Truro’s other entries also had strong outings.

Truro Heatwave finished in the runner-up spot in the Youth 1 Division while the Twisters and Truro Chill were both third in Junior 3 and Junior 2 respectively. Truro Frost, the club’s development squad, were third in the Youth 1 Prep Division.

The teams will be back in action Mar. 29 and 30 at the Cheer Expo National Championships at the Halifax Forum.
