Truro man charged in standoff facing new charges after fleeing courthouse
A young Truro man charged following a standoff with police on Lavinia Dr. last week is facing new charges.
Twenty-two-year-old Colby Smith was released on bail Monday, but was arrested hours later on a breach of conditions.
Smith was back in court Tuesday afternoon, but suddenly got up and raced out a fire exit door on the far side of the room and disappeared.
Inspector Rob Hearn, of the Truro Police Service, tells our newsroom Smith was pursued after he fled the courthouse and was arrested after a foot pursuit on Lavinia Dr., not far from his home.
Hearn says the young man is appearing in Truro Provincial Court Wednesday morning.
He says charges of escaping lawful custody and other court order breaches will be laid at that time.
