The battle was the longest engagement of the Second Word War, lasting from 1939 until 1945.

Over 2,000 sailors from the Royal Canadian Navy and 1,600 Canadian Merchant Seaman lost their lives in the battle.

A new release from the Truro Sea Cadets says the public is encouraged to participate in the ceremony, which takes place at the Truro Cenotaph at 11 a.m.
