Unemployment rate in N.S. up in June: Statistics Canada

Nova Scotia's unemployment rate jumped seven-tenths of a percentage point to 7.9 per cent in June.

The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show a net loss of 1,500 full-time jobs and 300 part-time positions from May, while the labour force grew by 1,600.

Nationally, the unemployment rate edged up last month despite a healthy bump of 31,800 jobs.

Canada's jobless rate went from 5.8 per cent in May to an even 6.0 per cent in June.

More than two thirds of the new jobs were in the part-time sector.
