Unifor rally Friday to support Tarkett North America workers in Truro
Unifor is hosting a rally Friday to support workers at the Tarkett North America plant in Truro and demand the company meet to negotiate a closure agreement.
The union says the company has been unwilling to meet to discuss severance and other issues related to the announced closure.
In a media release, Atlantic Regional Director Lana Payne says, "We would expect the company would offer a generous severance package for the employees given all their years of loyalty and dedicated service and work."
Tarkett North America announced in April that its Truro plant, formerly Crossley Carpet Mills Limited and Tandus Centiva, would close on July 16th.
The decision will eliminate around 240 jobs, with Unifor representing more than 200 of those workers.
Today's rally takes place at the Willow Street operation at noon.
