**Updated** CCRSB votes to keep Pictou Elementary, close Pictou Academy

Members of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB) have voted to close the building currently housing Pictou Academy.
At a special meeting Wednesday night in Truro, the board followed a staff technical report recommendation to make Pictou Elementary a Primary to Grade 8 facility and move Grade 9 to 12 students to Dr. Thomas McCulloch.
The School Options Committee had recommended the board either build a new P-12 school in the town, or make Pictou Elementary a P-5 facility and have Grades 6-12 at Dr. Thomas McCulloch.
CCRSB says changes will take place for the start of school in the fall, and the current Pictou Academy site will be deemed surplus on July 31st.
There's been much debate about what CCRSB can do with Pictou Academy, as a 200-year-old piece of legislation, which was reintroduced in 1969, states there must be institution called Pictou Academy in the Town of Pictou.
By a motion of the governing board, Dr. Thomas McCulloch will be re-named Pictou Academy.
