A crew of about 60 people are diligently working through the long weekend to clean up oil that spilled into Halifax harbour from a Nova Scotia Power generating station on Thursday.

Nova Scotia Power spokesperson David Rodenhiser says the company's environmental contractors estimate less than five-thousand of oil leaked from an exterior pipe that runs from storage tanks to the Tufts Cove plant on the Dartmouth side of the harbour.

He was unsure about how long the cleanup process will take, but confirmed crews will be working throughout the weekend and will continue until it's "completely cleaned."

He says the company should have a more concrete timeline next week.
