**Updated at 10:21 a.m.**

RCMP say a man killed Tuesday on Highway 103 had pulled the truck off the road to check on the cargo in the back when he was hit.

In an update Wednesday, police say the 54-year-old from Upper Tantallon exited his vehicle, at which time he and the truck were struck by a small car travelling in the same direction.

The incident happened just after 5:15 p.m. between exits 3 and 4.

RCMP say the passenger in the truck wasn't hurt, nor were the driver and passenger in the other vehicle.

Highway 103 was closed inbound between exits 3 and 4 until 2 a.m. Wednesday while an RCMP Collision Analyst examined the scene.
