Environment Canada says a major winter storm is expected to affect Nova Scotia on Thursday.

The national weather agency issued a special weather statement Tuesday for all of Nova Scotia.

The agency says long range models are coming into agreement with the track of this storm.

It says there are early snowfall estimates of 20 to 30 cm for most of the province, while rainfall amounts of 20-30 mm for southwest Nova Scotia are possible.

Forecasters say there's also the potential for another extended period of very high winds across the province.

More than 158,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were left without power, some for as many as four days, after high winds tore through the region on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
