Police in Sydney say an autopsy has ruled out foul play in the death of a man whose remains were found in wooded area on the weekend.

Residents say local children found the remains on Saturday morning near the end of street that borders on a popular trail and on the former location of the massive coke ovens used by the Sydney steel plant.

Cape Breton regional police have now cleared the scene.

But they say they are still working with the medical examiner's office to confirm the man's identity.
