Roger MacKay has taken a leave of absence as Westville's mayor until the end of October.

The request was approved at Monday's town council meeting.

MacKay is the federal Conservative candidate for Central Nova and says he asked for the leave so he wouldn't incur any costs to the town's taxpayers while campaigning.

He will not be paid his mayoral salary during his leave of absence and will not be involved in council meetings or votes.

Deputy mayor Lennie White will chair council meetings.
