Weymouth man charged with aggravated assault, assaulting peace officers

A Weymouth man has been charged with aggravated assault following a stabbing in North Kentville on Wednesday.

Kings District RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing inside a home on Charles Street around 3:30 a.m. and located a 21-year-old man inside with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Twenty-three-year-old Colton Leigh Thibault was arrested outside the residence without incident, while the victim was transported to hospital for treatment.

The RCMP say Thibault was brought to the New Minas RCMP detachment where he assaulted two police officers.

He's been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breach of probation, and two counts of assaulting a peace officer.

Thibault appeared in Kentville Provincial Court on Thursday and was released on conditions, with his next court date scheduled for March 21st.
