Windsor woman banned from owning animals for 5 years

Nova Scotia SPCA says a Windsor woman who failed to get medical help for her dog's broken leg has been banned from owning animals for five years.

The SPCA says workers seized a dog last June from Charlene Lucas's apartment, and found the dog severely matted and unable to walk on the broken leg.

The dog had to be euthanized.

The society says she pleaded guilty Tuesday and was also fined $150.

The SPCA's chief inspector Joanne Landsburg said the sentence disappointed her, and she would have like a much longer ownership prohibition.
