Pilot Orders 23 Pizzas for Passengers Stuck on Diverted Plane

Just call him the pied pilot! This week, an Air Canada pilot came to the rescue of his starving passengers by ordering nearly two dozen pizzas for them after their flight wound up stuck on the tarmac. The flight left Toronto for Halifax on Monday, but poor weather forced the plane to divert to Fredericton, New Brunswick--where they then had to sit on the tarmac due to the congestion created by other diverted flights. That's apparently when the pilot called Minglers Restaurant and Pub in Oromocto directly from the cockpit. "We do a catering business here too, so we're used to unusual numbers, but I mean on a storm night? For a plane? No," says Minglers owner Roch Larivée. The restaurant's staff sprang into action, quickly sending 23 large cheese and pepperoni pies to the plane. Passenger Bill Karsten tweeted a pic of the pizza being passed out along with the caption, "On tarmac in Fredericton on flight #608 flight diverted from Halifax. PIZZA has arrived!"
