JC’s Theatre Spotlight – What’s On This Weekend?

Halifax is heavy on art this weekend, but while Nocturne dominates the performance spaces Saturday night, there is also great theatre to be experienced in and near the city.

First, a family road trip idea to catch the closing performance Saturday evening of A Fine Monster You Are at Centre Stage Theatre in Kentville.  It’s a family show, but if you’re old enough to remember the old Carol Burnett Show, you’ll recognize some of the characters!  www.centrestagetheatre.ca

DaPoPo Theatre’s annual Live-In Festival, also known as “LIFe”, lasts the entire month of October and features new works, workshops, play readings and performances.  This year’s them is “Crossing The Lines”, such as performance crossing genre, cultural, and geographic lines; lines connecting art to politics and history … and LIFe.  It’s all happening at The Living Room at 2353 Agricola.  Find out more here:  https://www.facebook.com/DaPoPoTheatre/

And also in Halifax’s North End, Matchstick Theatre presents one more weekend of Bone Cage at Bus Stop Theatre, 2203 Gottingen St.  It’s the tenth anniversary production of Catherine Banks’ play, a Governor General’s award recipient.  The show studies seven rural Nova Scotians against the backdrop of the forestry industry.  Each are trying to escape, but relationships, pasts, and other circumstances stand in their way.  Evening shows at 8pm, with a 2pm Pay What You Can matinee on Sunday.
