Peter Harrison – John Stanton – That’s Inspiring!
When John Stanton began running, he would wake up well before the sun came up because, in his words, he didn’t want his neighbour to see “this chubby little guy” who could only run from lamp post to lamp post before he would have to stop for a rest. That was 1981. John Stanton would go on to run over 60 marathons, numerous triathlons, hundreds of shorter road races, and oh yeah, open 120 Running Room stores across Canada and the U.S. He has all found the time to write 10 books on running and walking and is the person most associated with recreational running in Canada.
He still remembers how intimidating it was to lace up his running shoes for the first time. With 13 weekends to go before the Scotiabank Blue Nose marathon, listen-in to my conversation with John Stanton and get some inspiration to keep running or to get started. -Peter
He founded the Running Room but that doesn't mean he didn't have the same insecurities about running when he first started that we all have.
