Wines Under $20 (March 24, 2017)

I’ve got a great Nova Scotia wine for you this week, it’s the Jost Muscat at it’s on sale this week at NSLC for $17.99. The first thing to know is that not all Muscats are created equal. The Muscat that we grow here in Nova Scotia is called New York Muscat; a hybrid that includes some of the DNA of the more famous Petit Grains Muscat. That allows the vines to survive the harsh Nova Scotia winters. Although it’s a hybrid, some people prefer New York Muscat over Petit Grains or Muscat Ottonel. Our Muscat is extremely aromatic and if you ever have a chance to taste a New York Muscat grape fresh off the vine, you'll find that the grape already tastes like Muscat wine in your mouth; delicious.

The nose of the Jost Muscat might be the best part about it. That’s not to say it doesn’t taste good; it does, but the nose is fantastic, full of orange blossoms, rose petals and peaches. On your tongue, Jost Muscat is spicy with hints or orange marmalade and rose water.

Serve it very cold with brie or gouda or any mild cheese you love.
