Premiers to meet in Edmonton to discuss economy, jobs

New Brunswick's premier says the economy and jobs will be his main focus during meetings in Edmonton this week.

Brian Gallant will join his provincial and territorial counterparts for meetings of the Council of the Federation on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gallant says the premiers will discuss how provinces can contribute to a positive resolution of the North American Free Trade Agreement modernization for the Canadian economy, and how to work together to develop and expand export markets.

The premiers are also expected to discuss Canada-U.S. relations, trade, infrastructure, legalization of cannabis, and criminal justice.

Before the meetings, the premiers will meet with national indigenous leaders to discuss indigenous children in care and the socio-economic action plan for aboriginal women.
