Renovations result in delay of camping season at Kouchibouguac National Park
If camping at Kouchibouguac National Park was on your agenda for the upcoming long weekend, you'd better make other plans.
The park typically opens to campers this time of year however it's only expected to open in June due to extensive renovations which include the modernization of service and concession buildings.
But Visitor Experiences Manager Jerome Lussier tells the Miramichi Leader that visitors can still enjoy activities like trout fishing and some of the park's many trails.
He says the camping season has been extended to late October to make up for the delayed start.
Meanwhile, this will be the park's first season since recreational cannabis became legal.
Lussier says park staff will be keeping an eye on cannabis consumption, noting it will be treated like alcohol and can only be consumed on visitor camp sites.
