Man charged in New Glasgow murder still seeking a lawyer

The legal delays continue for a 37-year-old New Glasgow man charged with second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Nicole Campbell who fired his lawyer just before his preliminary inquiry was set to start last month.

The News reports Robert Jason MacKenzie appeared in Pictou Supreme Court on Thursday, where he told Justice Denise Boudreau that Legal Aid was in the process of determining whether or not it would grant him a certificate.

If they did, MacKenzie said he'd spoken to a lawyer willing to take his case, and he'll be back in court on July 6th for arraignment.

Campbell's body was found in a New Glasgow apartment on December 30th, 2015 and MacKenzie was arrested the following day.

He also faces charges of theft of prescription drugs and possession of a weapon for an unrelated matter between November 30th and December 17th, 2015.
