Beacon Hill Park removing 60 dead trees

The City of Victoria is removing around 60 dead trees from Beacon Hill Park.

The supervisor of park operations, Rob Hughes, said the removal of these trees is part of trying to keep the park as lively as possible.

"These trees have been identified for removal, many of them due to the fact that they’re in severe decline or dead," Hughes said. "Our Urban Forest Master Plan speaks to keeping the urban forest vibrant with replacing dead or declining trees with new ones, and that’s our path forward, even with these replacements in Beacon Hill.

The park has over 6,000 trees, according to Hughes.

The tree removal will be taking place between now and April 1st, then the replanting is expected to start in fall 2018.
