Body in Washington state identified as missing Saanich kayaker

A body found in Washington State has been identified as a missing kayaker from Saanich.

56-year-old Lin "Michael" Wang reportedly had gone fishing in his kayak near the Beecher Bay Marina three weeks ago -- on June 19.

On July 3rd his body was found in Clallam Bay in Washington state -- 43 kms (27 miles) across the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Brian Smith, the county Sheriff's Office chief criminal deputy, says Wang's family identified him from photos of the body and the clothing he was wearing: including a UVic sweatshirt.

The death has been ruled accidental, and the cause was drowning.

Foul play is not suspected in his death.
